Genetics and Inheritance for Idiots

Each person's cell is composed of 23 pairs of chromosomes (therefore a total of 46). Each location in a chromosome is called a Gene that is about a specific feature of a person e.g. hair color, how big teeth are, eye color, etc. Each pair of chromosomes contains different Genes than other pairs.

Each chromosome in a sticking pair of chromosomes, one of them comes from father and one from mother. 22 of the pairs of the chromosomes consist of autosomes. The genes on these autosomes are the same across males and females. The final pair consists of the sex chromosomes.

A gene is about a specific features of a person e.g. hair color, how big teeth are, eye color, etc. Allele is the domain of a gene, e.g. eye color gene has domain Blue eye allele (denoted as b) and Brown eye  allele (denoted as B). and there is dominance in allels (dominant/recesive allels)

if Brown allele is dominant.
Genotype is the combination of alleles in a gene
Phenotype is the outcome that is visible

Genotype               Phenotype
———
Bb                            B
bB                             B
BB                            B
bb                             b

hybrid person :heterozygrous (has two types of allels)
